Our History

Anchor Bushings began modestly enough when my father P.D. Daniel leased some land from the Brickell Estates in Miami, Florida in 1929. He named his new business Atlantic Marine Boatyard and was located on the Miami River. He took this idea of a business and grew it to the point where he was able to sell it in 1946.

Using the knowledge and experience he had gained over the previous 17 years, my father then started Anchor Boat Supply, which was located at 410 S.W. 3rd Avenue in Miami, property he purchased from the Brickell’s. It was on this property that he sold marine hardware, engines, and other parts until he focused primarily on propellers and shafts – using the machining technology and expertise in which he was so proficient. In 1957, P.D., along with my mother Leah, retired to North Carolina, allowing me, his son, to take over the business. As it turned out, this began a growth period in the marine industry, with the corresponding increase in boat production. During this time, Anchor Boat Supply added propeller repair, fabrication, and other new items to
its business line of services and products.

Some of the new items provided were nylon and bronze propeller bore reducing bushings. These items enabled boat owners to avoid having to purchase a new propeller when the existing shaft was too small for a propeller. These bushing proved to be so popular that more than 50 bushing sizes were designed, including metric sizes, and
became a consistent part of Anchor Boat Supply business from the 1970’s on.

In 1995, my wife Jeanne and I sold Anchor Boat Supply, but
moved the bushing business over to our new company, Anchor Bushings Inc., where we continue to provide our products to marinas in the U.S. and Canada.

We have enjoyed our small part in the boating industry,
particularly working with our customers, and hope to continue for quite some time.
